MelMadeGirl_1_rendered_a

I created this when I was first starting zbrush and this is the comments I made at the time

This was supposed to be a speed sculpt but it took a lot longer than I thought =(

I’m still pretty new to ZBrush, and I’m liking it so far. To practice I think I’ll use the concept out that is out there, there’s so much good stuff that I don’t know what to pick next haha.

Original Concept Art by Mel Milton:

Around this time I figured the best way to improve my character modelling skills would be to find fantastic concepts and translate them into it’s 3D counterpart. This was done before entering AIE (Academy of Interactive Entertainment), but looking back on it now it’s still not bad.

The concept I worked off was done by Mel Milton. Here is the concept:

I respect the people who can concept well. Mel Milton is one of those people. So I started creating the model from scratch. I knew I was only going to view it from the front view so I optimised the model to view only from the front. The Zbrush brushes I used in this was mostly the standard brush I believe. So I definitely had a hard time getting the model to look right and smooth. I discovered the clay brushes in this one so after that it made life so much easier to sculpt.

But with clothing though, this model was the first model that I used the standard brush to create clothing and it created results which I found was amazing.

I also created a coloured version to match with concept art. Not quite happy with the redness, since red played a huge part in the concept art, but I got it as close as I could to the concept art.

All in all I had a great time and I learned a lot about zbrush and working with clothing. This sculpt was the one of the first times I worked with harder surfaces for clothing, and I struggled to make it look decent. Looking back on it now though, the feel of the 3D sculpt is quite different from the concept art, but it’s still a result I’m happy with.
