Practicing the open box animation exercise. Done using the Goon rig in Blender. This was actually one of the first few animations I created at AIE. The exercise was to get the rig to react to something inside the box. The rig would open the box then react to something inside.
Some people chose sadness, greed or anger. For my one I chose surprise, you can see the work in progress here:
One fatal problem I had while working in this animation was that I used Quaternion rotations. Although I get the advantage of no gimbal lock, the major disadvantage of it was that I couldn’t edit the curves since it doesn’t exactly give the X,Y,Z rotations like the Euler rotation. So for this case I’ll have to forgo rotation when I polish the animation or edit the rotation and arcs using the keyframes.
